Teeny-tiny farm in the middle of somewhere…

I see you little squash blossoms….

I was out watering yesterday after work and noticed that not only did the Crook-Neck have two blossoms on it one of them had the beginnings of a squash on the end of it (about 3 inches long).  The Zuch had three blossoms and one small squash a tad smaller than it’s crook neck neighbor.  I have resigned myself to the fact that I don’t think the watermelon will be producing any time soon this year. It gets blossoms they turn to teeny melons which wither away to nothing :(   Any ideas on how to save this would be muchly appreciated!

I am considering implementing a method I have learnt from Square Foot Gardening, even tho I have yet to set my garden up that way (need dirt and wood remember) and attaching some cord to the fence and training the vines up that for the time being as possibly it is the ground/bugs that are killing my melons. ( I feel like such a fraud, been promising Brap fresh home grown watermelon for some time now, still have yet to deliver).

Speaking of Brap (aka the Husbandly Unit, hubby,HU) he has volunteered to make some sort of scarecrow when the new garden goes in. Considering where we live  it should prove interesting to see what he comes up with ;)

Well enough of that for now… the 9-5 is calling (yes I know it’s not even 7:30 yet here but you get the gist).

ANY tips/tricks are always welcome

Be wonderFULL

So today I learnt that yes Virginia, you can put your dryer lint in your compost bin..

Oh dear how fantastic is that.. really!!!!  Our washroom is just three steps away from the compost bin.. easy peasy :)

So I had resigned myself to the fact that my first attempt at growing tomatoes would produce two lovely `maters  from 7 plants that sprouted (all from the same tomato purchased at the local organic co-op market thingie).. well I was out watering/talking to/infusing love into my plants just about 30 minutes ago and realized that lo and behold there is another teeny tiny roma starting from where a flower once was.

funny because the last time I recall any flowers on the plant was a month ago easy. So three  would be just fine for now… I will save the seeds from them and start all over with the Square Foot Method.

It also appears that my cantaloupes are starting to form baby melons as well as the squash is finally starting to fruit.. I counted one Crook-Neck and two Zucchini already :)

And with that I am off to start dinner  …

As some of you may know from my other blog.. I have started to grow my own food. Therefore this blog will be all about my gardening adventures, tips and tricks, pictures of the garden as it progresses (right now it’s various veggies in planters and pots out in the part of the yard where the actual garden will go SOON.

The picture  you see above is one of my yellow crook neck squash plants just after watering… I am quite proud of my little garden so far and plan to keep the love flowing :)
